Vegan Supermarket

I came across a little piece the other day on the internet about a vegan supermarket that is opening (probably open by now) in the city of Dortmund, Germany and it got me thinking about our supermarkets in generally.

I look around at the standard supermarkets in my area and it pains me to say that they don't offer anywhere near the variety of foods for vegetarians or vegans.  In this day and age it really is quite disgraceful.  The lack of organic fresh foods. the lack of variety in the meat alternative area not to mention the nonexistence of vegan cheeses, sour creams and other "dairy free" items in the chillers.

Recommending Thai Dining

While my daughter and granddaughter were with me we managed to have a wonderful family get-together.  All the family gathered from both within this country and from overseas and we converged on a small town to a family member who was unable to travel.

Vegetarian Food for Baby

I've had the last few days with my daughter & granddaughter (who is absolutely delightful, not being biased) and have been having amazing vegetarian and vegan foods.  Cooking is something both my daughter and I love to do so we have come up with some crazy meal combos.

What I have found very interesting is how she is feeding my granddaughter.  Let me put you in the picture…..She is now 11 months old and is still getting her main "food" from nursing but is supplementing with solids at breakfast and dinner and this is what I do find fascinating.

A History Lesson in Vegetarian Diet

I've been reading up a little history that I thought you might be interested in.

It seems that every culture throughout history has used food to prevent and treat illness and promote good health. Apparently the Egyptians used lentils to enlighten the mind and the Greeks and Romans used honey to heal wounds. In China, grains and sprouted beans treated a wide range from constipation to dropsy.

What Made You Become a Vegetarian?

Since becoming a vegetarian I often get asked the question "What made you become a vegetarian?".  This first thing I do is ask them "do you really want to know the answer or are you just asking to make conversation?".  The reaction is usually "no I really do want to know".

This gives me a bit of an idea of how far I can take it.
